Shift Pay Check
Enter your repeating roster once. See what the minimum and penalty rates in the Hospitality or General Retail award come to for a pay period, hour by hour (evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays), and compare it with the gross on your payslip. Free, no sign-up, works offline.
Estimate only. Not legal or payroll advice. It uses the award's minimum rates and penalty rates for adult employees and cannot know your contract, an enterprise agreement, allowances or overtime. If your numbers differ, check with Fair Work's own Pay and Conditions Tool or call the Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94. Private by design: your roster stays in this browser and is never uploaded.
1. Your job
Adult employees (21 and over) only for now. Junior, apprentice and trainee rates are not included. Which level you are on is on your contract or payslip.
2. Your repeating roster
Day 1 is the date your pattern starts from; day 2 is the next date, and so on, repeating. For a normal week roster make day 1 a Monday. Leave start and finish empty for a day off. A finish earlier than the start means the shift ends after midnight.
| Day | Start | Finish |
|---|
3. Pay period and public holidays
Public holiday dates depend on your state or territory, so add the ones that fall in your pay period. Hours on those dates are paid at the public holiday rate.
4. Your estimate
Add at least one shift above.
5. Compare with your payslip
How this works
- Source: minimum hourly rates and penalty rates for the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020 [MA000009] and the General Retail Industry Award 2020 [MA000004], as published by the Fair Work Commission, rates in force from 1 July 2026. Rates change each 1 July; this page shows the date it was last checked ().
- Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), copyright the Commonwealth of Australia as represented by the Fair Work Commission. This tool changes the data into a calculator. It is not endorsed by, or affiliated with, the Fair Work Commission or the Fair Work Ombudsman.
- Time: each minute of each shift is given the rate for the day and time it falls on; casual loading is already inside the casual percentages. The highest applicable penalty is paid, not a stack of them. For General Retail, shiftwork rates (clause 23) apply only if you tick "employed as a shiftworker"; otherwise evening work is priced at the ordinary after-6pm rates.
- Not included: overtime (shifts or weeks over the award's limits are flagged, not priced), allowances, leave, super, tax, junior or apprentice rates, enterprise agreements and individual flexibility arrangements. Minimum engagement periods are applied where noted.
